Introduction to McAfee Total Protection Plus
McAfee Total Protection Plus Has Many Features But One That Could Make Your PC Less Vulnerable
What is McAfee Total Protection Plus?
McAfee Total Protection is a leading firewall and anti-virus software product designed by McAfee Corporation. This is one of the top products on the market, and while it does work extremely well at blocking firewalls and other viruses, it does not have nearly the same number of features as some of the top products in this category.
For this reason, many people would prefer to choose other products instead. However, while other companies will offer you a similar product (such as Norton or Kaspersky), they may be lacking a few important features. This can mean the difference between being able to block viruses and other malware and having a computer that will slowly die due to an overworked virus scanner.
The features most wanted from an antivirus program are safety and privacy, and McAfee Total Protection does not come close. While it does provide protection from virus attacks, it is limited in that it blocks spam, unlike many of the free antivirus programs (which also block spam).
The program may block viruses that are not known to be harmful to your computer, but since it has such a shortlist of potential threats, it has the tendency to miss common threats that could cause harm. While installing McAfee Total Protection Plus at www.mcafee.com/activate you may keep or disable the settings as per your requirements to allow the programs. It is also susceptible to weak passwords and other weaknesses, which can easily cause it to be compromised and cause a computer to become unusable.
The feature set is better than its competition, however. Unlike most other antivirus programs, McAfee Total Protection supports multitasking on Windows Vista. This means that you can run the program on your laptop while simultaneously surfing the Internet and using other applications on your desktop.
In addition, you can run this on any platform, including both Windows and Apple Macs, which mean that you can take the application with you no matter where you go. This security feature of the software is quite convenient and can make for a smooth, worry-free, multi-platform experience when protecting your family, business, or home network.
What else do we need to know about McAfee Total Protection?
Like other antivirus programs, the free version of McAfee Total Protection will only allow you to scan for threats on one computer at a time. For example, if you were infected with a worm that spread across multiple computers, you could scan each of the machines but not on the others.
That said, this is a minor gripe, as the functionality is generally good. If you want to scan multiple machines for threats, McAfee offers parental controls so you can restrict the amount of information that is downloaded onto your home machine.
In addition to parental controls, the McAfee antivirus plus package comes with a security toolbox, which works much like McAfee’s other products in terms of threat protection. Unlike some other anti-malware products, however, the McAfee total protection software does not include a live vulnerability scanner.
The program can scan for malware threats but doesn’t address the vulnerabilities that allow those threats to penetrate. This is a minor gripe, especially when you consider the value-added security the product offers.
When comparing the value of McAfee antivirus plus against other products, the software has several other advantages. First, it includes a built-in firewall, which acts as a defense mechanism against malware. Your machine does not have to be connected to the internet in order to run the McAfee antivirus plus software.
Also, this software provides an application called the password manager, which will help you keep track of all of your passwords and logins. With other programs, you must memorize a series of numbers or letters in order to access the password manager, but not with McAfee.
Another major advantage of the McAfee antivirus is the McAfee Quick Scan feature. This feature allows you to perform a free McAfee antivirus scan on your computer in just a few minutes. If you regularly scan your machine for security holes, you can prevent the number of infections from your computer may receive.
This will save you time and money because you won’t need to purchase another McAfee antivirus product. The Quick Scan option is also great if you want to get a general idea of what programs are on your PC and to determine if any of them are malicious. Running a quick scan will also give you a better idea of how often you need to clean up your system.
McAfee antivirus plus is a great product that is packed with many valuable features. However, it does lack one important feature which could make your machine more susceptible to attack – a built-in password manager. By enabling this security tool on your computer you are able to perform multiple tasks, including protecting yourself from malicious software that could harm your machine without causing any damage.
